GREENDAY - 21 GUNS

just figure out that this TRANSFORMERS : REVENGE OF THE FALLEN's soundtrack has the same tone with COLDPLAY's FIX YOU, in terms of how both songs try to pacify us at our hardest moments... only this song has one symbolization : the phrase '21 guns', anyone have any idea what that could mean? anyways, here is the lyric:

Do you know what's worth fighting for
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take you breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weight out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Does someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
You and i

When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
You and i

Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone

When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
You and i

Follow the Obama leadership blueprint to ensure success

Jez Cartwright. Personnel Today. Sutton: Jan 20, 2009

US president Barack Obama was voted in as the world s most powerful leader after convincing his compatriots that he could rebuild America's self-confidence and bring change.

In defeating two formidable rivals - Hillary Clinton and John McCain - Obama has shown himself to be a cool and competent manager, a charismatic persuader, and a remarkable orator, who displayed a mastery of the art of campaigning. He also revealed certain qualities and attributes that define his leadership style.

If you're trying to lead a team or an organisation through the current economic downturn, here are 10 lessons HR leaders can learn from Obama:

1 Know yourself

Understanding your own strengths and weaknesses can help you to build credibility. A young African-American from a single-parent background, Obama takes a fiercely disciplined approach to life and is conscious of his image and of how he presents himself. Grounded and reflective, he shows his values, his self-regard and his emotional self-awareness.

2 Listen to people

Obama is described as someone who is acutely sensitive to other people's predicaments. His powerful messages of hope and possibility stem from listening to what Americans want. By showing that he understands the problems that exist, he is able to position himself as in tune with the mood of the nation.

3 Provide an inspiring vision

A good leader needs to set the direction. Obama has given America an exciting, optimistic and inclusive vision of the future - his call for change has struck a chord. In highlighting that the difficulties faced are not insurmountable, he has won hearts and minds.

4 Communicate clearly

Good leaders are usually good communicators. Like Lincoln, Churchill and Mandela before him, Obama has impressed with his ability to deliver eloquent, from-the-heart and highly persuasive speeches.

5 Surround yourself with good people

Leaders need to have the right people around them - people who can provide sound advice and to whom they can delegate. Obama has been praised for the sense of loyalty and devotion that he inspires in those who work for him.

6 Be authentic

To be credible as a leader, what you say has to match what you do. Obama has a magnetic and likeable appeal, and seems brimming with energy to get things done. He is also consistent in his words and his actions, and this has helped him to make people believe not only that he is genuine, but also that he is on their side.

7 Be decisive

Good leaders do not dither. According to his colleagues, once Obama feels he has all the facts at his fingertips, he takes a decision based on rational and emotional content.

8 Remain flexible

If the situation you are facing changes, you have to be able to adapt quickly. Obama showed an admirable ability to react and respond appropriately when the dominant issue in the presidential debates changed from national security to the financial crisis.

9 Keep your composure

In a crisis, leaders need a temperament that doesn't overheat underpressure. Obama showed extraordinary composure and remained cool, calm and collected.

10 Seize the day

Turbulent times are an opportunity for leaders to show their greatness. Obama has grabbed the opportunity to fulfil his potential. Follow his example and make things happen for yourself.

What the future holds

There is, of course, more to being a leader than talking a great game. After his inauguration in Washington today (20 January) as the US's 44th president, Obama will be judged on his actions. And he faces absurdly high expectations: he will have to repair public finances; restore confidence in the economy; and deliver on his promises to cut taxes, expand healthcare, bring troops home from Iraq, and bolster forces in Afghanistan.

These tasks will require more than uplifting oratory. Hope can turn to bitterness and cynicism if a leader is unable to deliver, and therein lies another leadership test: how to manage disappointment.

The world will be watching.

a hammer on the head

maybe i was born ignorant...
if life were a school, i frequently play truant...

i missed too many important moments that just pass by...
and lets them just vaporized like steam to the sky...

friends came, but sometimes i don't see how much they stick to me through thick and thin...
then their meanings failed to crawl into deep inside of my insensitive skin...

but i must thank this special girl of mine...
who reminded me that somehow our lives always intertwine...

she spat on my face but not in a disgraceful way...
she showed me that a relationship must not be an empty game that we play...

furthermore, she said that lately i have failed to see...
that she believes i am less than a man i used to be...

it shocked me like a sledgehammer to the head...
because it really showed me that we should never take anything for granted...

so, i whisper to the pigeons, tell them to whisper it again to my lovely princess...
that she is my only one, and i could not care less...

When My Mind's Made Up...

a week after the first day of new year...baru nyadar bahwa bikin resolusi itu penting... huehehe... yap, so at the end of the year we can look back and evaluate ourselves... (ini prinsip dasar manajemen... cukup memalukan bagi seorang anak manajemen jika tidak menerapkan hal ini, haha...)... so, here they are, my 2009 resolutions :

1. TO GRADUATE !!! It's a MUST...

2. To get a job... yaah, setelah nomer 1 terpenuhi pastinya...

3. To travel again... anywhere... out of this lousy daily life which keep consuming my soul... backpacking keliling Jawa will be nice... going abroad again is nicer of course, hehehe...

4. To maintain things with my princess... yes, soo tired of searching... tired of waiting... tired of questioning and analyzing... tired of shadows... tired of getting scared will end up lonely... sometimes tired of not giving any damn to the 'L word'... (finally i've found someone who feels so true... and to keep my promise to never let her go...yap, that's my princess, and i LOVE her soo damn much... end of discussion!)

5. To have my novel published... well, it doesn't depend on me, tho... but when i get lucky (and given a chance, i will fight to spread the holy purpose of writing and exploring our imagination...)

6. To be a good big brother by guiding my little siblings more intensely... yap, for being away for the last 4 years, probably this year i can make up to this kinda thing... i was born with no older brothers, but there are many people who are kind enough to act like brothers to me and teach me both good and evil things in life... now's my time to do it to the people who came out from the same womb as me...

7. To spend more times with my Mom and Dad... i know, i know... i've been away for too long... but maybe i was prepared to be away, therefore, i mustn't forget times to go home...

8. To never stop inspiring people... whomever they are... i think this is my time to act to the world... moving at the speed of life, we are bound to collide with each other (quoted from CRASH)...

hopefully, at the end of 2009, i can read this post again and feeling so much joy at the same time for fulfilling all the resolutions...

AMEN...

Lucid Dreams

"The worst mistake that you can make is to think you're alive when really you're asleep in life's waiting room"

Itu adalah salah satu quote favorite gw... namun jujur aja, sampai skrg gw ga tau maksud filosofis di balik kata-kata itu sebenernya apa... a simple conclusion that can be pulled out of the mind-twisting movie WAKING LIFE, film dimana quote itu muncul, adalah salah satu tanda tanya besar, yang juga menjadi salah satu quote lain di film tersebut, "they say a dream feels real only when it lasts... could you say the same thing about life?"

Heuhh... rasanya gakkan ada habisnya kalau lagi-lagi gw ngebahas tentang betapa 'tidak-nyata' atau 'semu'- nya hidup ini... fyi, my wildest imagination once told me bahwa sebenernya kehidupan sehari-hari yang gw jalani adalah sebuah mimpi panjang yang terasa nyata... jadi, ketika gw mandi, belajar, main bola, atau nulis blog ini, it's just a long-lasting dream yang entah kapan akan berhenti, but someday it will come to an end... a little religious, huh?

well, i don't wanna go into a religious pep-talk like what the preachers say di salat Jumat or kuliah subuh, tapi alangkah senangnya diri gw ketika setelah menjadi penikmat film dan entertainment, banyak filmmaker ternyata mengambil isu ini sebagai tema utama karya mereka... gw paling ingat salah satu episode MAC GYVER yang di endingnya ternyata sejam penuh episode itu hanya berupa mimpi si Mac Gyver... lalu, ada salah satu versi (fan fiction?)

then the big question will always remain,

"The worst mistake that you can make is to think you're alive when really you're asleep in life's waiting room"

what's that supposed to mean?

H.E.L.P.!!!

MY FIRST SHORT STORY...

Tristan exhaled. Throwing out heavy breaths is all he had been doing. He stared solemnly to the aged couple standing in front of him. They had been holding hands, just like they never wanted to let each other go. Tristan hated to admit, but he envied them. The couple looked so romantic. The man, a nearly bald-headed mid-50s, spent couple times stroking his woman’s long wavy hair. As a respond, she never stopped giving him the ‘you-complete-me’ look. Smiles never left the faces of them both.

Then the elevator dinged. The couple left Tristan alone again inside the cold 4x4-square room. He folded his arm on his chest then breathed heavily once again. He started to think he was going crazy.

‘I guess I really am’, he said to himself. ‘What the hell am I doing here? Standing inside an elevator for almost two hours, going up and down without ever getting off? Keep looking at various kinds of people who come in and out? I must be out of my mind!’

But then seconds later, something caught his attention. Two young girls, probably the same ages as his, stepped into the elevator. Both of them were cute, but the only one that attracted him was the one with long black hair and deep look inside beautiful dark eyes. Tristan froze. He never saw such a beauty.

The girl seemed to ignore him. She was too busy chatting with her friend, the curly one. In fact, it was the curly one who did all the talking. The long-haired was just acting as a good listener.

Tristan glanced at her full body, from the tip of her toes to the end of her hair. He adored how she looks. In fact, he wanted to be with her. But then a second thought just crossed his mind. He had to remember that he had enough with girls. ‘They just caused you madness and confusion,’ his gloomy thought said.

But suddenly the girl started to talk to the curly one, and what Tristan heard on what she said really amazed him. It began with a simple question that she asked the curly one, right after the elevator started to go up.

‘Hey, Nora, have you watched Serendipity?’

‘Are you saying that silly movie with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale?’

‘Yes, it is. But it is not silly, you know.’

Nora giggled. ‘Then what are you trying to say, Diana? That it is the most romantic chic-flick you’ve ever seen?’

Tristan kept the name inside his mind. Diana, what a name!

‘Hey, I do believe it is romantic,’ Diana protested. ‘I really love it. Even though there are too many coincidences on the scenes, but it’s the coincidence that makes it romantic!’

‘I haven’t watched it. But what’s ‘serendipity’ anyway?’

‘It’s something related to… you know, destiny. I see that all the coincidences in fact tries to say that sometimes just comes along. You don’t look for it. But then sometimes it just comes back. I think that’s what happens with love.’

Nora started to laugh, ‘listen to yourself, honey! Isn’t it a little too hard to be discussed inside an elevator?’

Suddenly there’s a funny look inside Diana’s look. ‘In that movie, it started inside an elevator, you know, where the guy and the girl meet and started to test whether their love can come along with serendipity.’

Tristan enjoyed what he heard. He loved the enchanting sound of Diana’s voice when expressing her smart thinking about love.

Suddenly, the elevator stopped. It started to shake like the earth was having an earthquake. The two girls started to panic. Tristan tried to steady himself and kept it cool, while actually he felt a little panic inside himself as well.

Then the so-called serendipity, which Diana had been talking about, happened in a quite funny way. Diana pulled her body to the elevator’s wall, and said something, which sounded more like a joke than an expression of panicky.

‘Help, I don’t wanna die! I haven’t been married!’ she said with small giggles and a smile.

Seeing that expression, Tristan guessed that this elevator quake usually happens. But then without realizing what he did, Tristan suddenly approached the long-haired girl then gave her his hand.

‘Marry me, now!’

At the same time, the quake stopped. Silence fulfilled the whole room. The two girls exchanged stares. They could not believe what this strange guy just said, especially Diana.

Tristan realized this effect of strange awkwardness was caused by his spontaneous reaction, so he tried to play it cool. He tried his best to smile, and without pulling his hand back, he said it loud and clear.

‘My name is Tristan.’

Diana was stunned, but then she welcomed that guy’s hand and said her name. Next to her, Nora rolled her eyes.

But no one noticed Nora’s demeaning expression. The most important effect that happened that day was the turning-back to both Tristan and Diana’s life. Tristan found a girl that probably his whole life he had been looking for. For Diana, she ended up her long journey in questioning the existence of love. That was the first time this new couple start to believe in love, and how amazed they were when they found out that it could start in a very simple thing, which almost feels like nothing.

It’s what called ‘serendipity'

P.S. : I Miss You (?)

i wished for a man who can understand. and he's more than that.
i wished for a man who won't feel intimidate by me. and he's glad for what i had.
i wished for a man who can keep my feet on the ground. and sometimes he still taking me fly away.
i wished for a man who knows what he want. and not neglecting what i need.
i wished for a man who says the words "I love you" and not making me scare. and somehow i can say "I love you too" without any fear.
i wished for a man who let me do things i want. and knowing he will always there if i make mistake or simply failed.
i wished for a man who know that i am somehow a skeptic girl. and he said "Relax, lets find out together".

i wished for a man, not so much like you, but you're more than what i ever wished.
honey, thank you.
